About us - our history

In some ways this is a new practice, but in many very significant ways we have a rich history of serving the community.

In 1979, Dr. Betram Walls and Dr. Steve Scott formed Valley Women's Center in Fayetteville. The practice rapidly became one of the busiest in the city. In 1991, Dr. Walls retired and turned the practice over to Dr. Miles Wilson, who operated the practice from 1991 until his unexpected death in July of 2004. While alive, Dr. Wilson frequently shared call with Dr. Johnnie Jones, another respected ob-gyn in town.

I completed my extensive training in ob-gyn at Duke University in July 2004, with plans to move to Fayetteville to join Dr. Johnnie Jones in practice. Upon Dr. Wilson's death in July 2004, his family asked me to assume care of his patients. Dr. Wilson's dedicated and valued staff have joined me in providing excellent care for his patients.

I am happy to report that the transition has been smooth, and the patients have been satisfied. If you are one of the former patients of Dr. Walls and Dr. Wilson and are looking for continued care, we encourage you to make an appointment to see us. We are also inviting new patients to experience the excellent care we have to offer.

Our special interests

The Fayetteville area has many excellent providers of women's health. We would like to let you know what sets us apart to see if we can meet your needs.

Individualized, personalized care
I am the only physician that will be taking care of you, assisted by my nurse practitioner Angela McLaurin. You don't have to worry about seeing a different doctor each visit, multiple unnecessary changes in management, or a stranger delivering your baby or answering your telephone calls. During the rare times that I am out of town or on vacation, I will arrange coverage with another qualified obstetrician.

I take your viewpoint, convictions, and circumstances very seriously. We make every attempt to provide health care that respects your background. We have a special interest in adolescent health care and bloodless medicine and surgery.

Excellence and diversity in care
I have received some of the best training that our health system has to offer, graduating with honors from Duke undergraduate, Duke Medical School, and receiving extensive specialty training at Duke after finishing medical school. While at Duke, I was trained in cutting edge techniques such as laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, incision free sterilization, minimally invasive incontinence procedures, and the latest management of high risk pregnancies.
